Type A plugs are unearthed and have two flat parallel pins. Their earthed counterparts, Type B plugs, have the same two flat parallel pins and a grounding pin. Type A plugs will fit in any Type A or B
socket.
Being unearthed, Type A plugs are only found on low-powered devices with fully insulated casings. Type A sockets are no usually installed as wall plugs (Type B is used here instead), but they are found on some power strips and extension cords.
Type A plugs are used in North and Central America, the Caribbean, Japan, and parts of South America and Asia. They are among the most common plug types in the world.
