Type G plugs are earthed and have three rectangular pins in a triangular configuration. The earth pin is longer than the other two, so the plug is grounded before the power is connected. The live pins are shuttered until the earth pin is inserted. Therefore, even plugs that are not earthed, like those of phone chargers, contain a plastic earth pin to open the shutters. Type G plugs are the only plug type where the plug itself must contain a fuse. They are not compatible with any other plug types.

Where are Type G plugs and sockets used?

Type G plugs are used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Malaysia, Singapore, and parts of Africa and the Middle East.
